Police have shared surveillance footage revealing chilling moments from a recent shooting in Twin Falls, Idaho. This tragic event unfolded last Saturday at an In-N-Out restaurant, claiming three lives and ending with the gunman, Chad Williams, taking his own life.
Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks announced that the motive behind the shooting remains unknown. The incident began in the drive-thru lane; Williams shot through the payment window, fatally wounding Ashley Garibay of Stockton, California.
Williams then exited his car and killed 59-year-old Christopher Claunch, from Hagerman, Idaho, inside his vehicle. Amid the chaos, former Idaho State Police trooper, Austin James, tried to intervene. He approached Williams but was shot and forced to retreat due to his injuries.
Williams attempted further harm by firing into the restaurant again. His handgun malfunctioned, prompting him to retrieve a rifle from his vehicle. An off-duty state police trooper, present inside the restaurant, moved toward the window and exchanged gunfire with Williams.
Leaving the scene, Williams targeted cars stopped at a red light, injuring three more people. Nearby, at a Tesla charging station, he shot and killed 66-year-old Dale Schultz from Salt Lake City.
Outside the Twin Falls Visitor Center, an unnamed worker engaged with Williams, providing others the opportunity to escape. ‘Your courage, your composure, your selflessness in that moment likely gave others the time they needed to escape harm,’ Chief Hicks praised the worker’s bravery.
Braxton Stuebe, an employee from Dick’s Sporting Goods near the scene, encountered Williams during his escape. Stuebe recounted his tense encounter, noting that Williams appeared emotional but ultimately instructed him to leave. Williams later shot at Stuebe but missed.
