South Carolina’s head coach Shane Beamer and quarterback LaNorris Sellers are entering a critically important season. The pressure is high after a disappointing 4-8 record in 2025. Beamer’s job could be at risk without improvement, and Sellers’ NFL draft prospects hinge on his performance this fall. This season’s challenges grew as the team announced injuries to two key wide receivers.
Jayden Sellers, brother of LaNorris, and Jayden Gibson will be absent for the entire 2026 season due to injuries. Beamer expressed his disappointment, stating, “I am extremely disappointed for both of these young men. I know how hard each of them has worked over the spring and summer in getting ready for 2026 to help our team. I have full confidence they will both overcome the adversity they’re facing, and we will help them in whatever way we can throughout the rehab process moving forward.”
Jayden Sellers made significant strides in 2025, recording 22 receptions for 337 yards and one touchdown. His standout performance came against Coastal Carolina on November 22, with 127 yards and a touchdown in their 51-7 victory. In the game against Clemson on November 29, he added five receptions for 67 yards.
Jayden Gibson, a senior from Apopka, Florida, had 14 receptions for 375 yards and five touchdowns with Oklahoma in 2023. He missed the 2024 season due to injury and didn’t play in 2025, marking this season as another setback.
These losses put pressure on South Carolina’s remaining receivers, including Nitro Tuggle, Mazeo Bennett Jr., and Nyck Harbor. The team’s depth will be tested as they navigate the season without Sellers and Gibson.
