Senators Advocate for Graham-Backed Russia Sanctions

Senator Dave McCormick, a Republican from Pennsylvania, discusses the bipartisan effort to pass a sanctions bill targeting Russia. The goal is to put pressure on Vladimir Putin to end the conflict in Ukraine. McCormick commented on President Donald Trump’s speech at the Pennsylvania Defense and Innovation Summit on ‘Fox & Friends.’

Tribute to Sen. Lindsey Graham

Former Vice President Mike Pence proposed that Congress rename the sanctions legislation after the late Senator Lindsey Graham. Pence stated that renaming the bill would fittingly honor Graham’s dedication to national security and support for Ukraine. Graham’s work on promoting stronger sanctions against Russia serves as part of his legislative legacy, according to Pence.

Pence sees an opportunity for Congress to pass this sanctions package, immortalizing Graham’s efforts through legislative action. Passing the bill would more firmly establish Graham’s support for Ukraine and America’s allies.

Graham’s Commitment to Geopolitical Issues

Graham regarded Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a major geopolitical challenge, advocating for economic pressure to compel Putin to negotiate. He was clear-eyed about dealing with Putin and understood Ukraine’s importance as a global ‘frontier of freedom.’

Pence remarked that, throughout his career, Graham consistently encouraged both Republican and Democratic administrations to uphold alliances.

A Lasting Legacy

Pence noted that the sanctions legislation could be Graham’s enduring achievement. Graham consistently promoted international relationships, including those with Israel and NATO, and encouraged increased defense spending. This legislative focus remained unchanged, marking his career with consistency.

Pence recalled a memorable last conversation with Graham at an airport, where Graham passionately stressed the significance of the Ukraine sanctions. This encounter, marked by personal and policy discussions, exemplified Graham’s dedication to public service.

Honoring Graham’s Work

“I believe there would be no more fitting tribute to the life and vision of Senator Lindsey Graham than to pass and sign Graham’s Russia sanctions bill,” Pence said.

Pence emphasized the importance of completing Graham’s work on the sanctions bill. He expressed commitment to advocating for the bill’s passage. Lawmakers are encouraged to act in recognition of Graham’s contributions.

As of the time of reporting, the White House had not provided comments on the proposal. Brittany Miller, a Fox News Digital writer and former Independent reporter, graduated from Syracuse University in 2023.
