Search Underway for Abducted Girl in Nevada

Law enforcement agencies are actively searching for a 5-year-old girl taken by her father, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office reports.

An AMBER Alert is in effect for Amaya Meithof, allegedly abducted from a Carson City, Nevada, home around 4:36 a.m. on Sunday. Authorities suspect she is with her father, Christopher Meithof, 41, whose last address is in Federal Way, Washington. He is believed to be heading south toward Quartz Hill, California.

Suspect and Vehicle Information

Authorities have asked the public to be on the lookout for the suspect’s vehicle, a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Oregon license plate 576 QNU.

• Suspect Description: Christopher Meithof is approximately 6 feet tall, weighing around 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
• Victim Description: Amaya Meithof was last seen in a blue princess nightgown. She has common allergies but is in good health otherwise.

Records reviewed by Newsweek show Christopher Meithof is on parole and has a previous criminal record, including burglary and weapons charges. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office confirms he is the girl’s father but lacks additional updates on their search.

Family Appeals for Safe Return

The child’s mother, Crystal Rose, has made emotional pleas on social media, asking the community for assistance.

“He came to visit her and took her and disappeared,” she wrote on Facebook. “I didn’t want it to come to this but this is not how we do things.”

Rose further implored, “Please share this post with everyone you know. Please help me bring my peachy home safe.”

Attempts to reach Meithof were unsuccessful as of midday Monday. Rose did not immediately respond to requests for more comments.
