Sean Payton to Present Drew Brees at Hall of Fame

Sean Payton, previously the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, now works with the Denver Broncos. Despite his departure from New Orleans, his connections remain strong.

A recent FaceTime call from Drew Brees, a former player and friend, touched Payton deeply. Brees called to invite Payton to present him at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Canton, Ohio, scheduled for next week.

Honest to God, I can’t believe you just did that, said an emotional Payton during the call. Yeah, absolutely man.

Brees expressed affection, saying, I can’t wait. I love you. Payton admitted to reporters at Broncos training camp that he felt unprepared for such a request, saying, It was just a lot — 15 years together. A lot of times, for a number of reasons, those relationships — quarterback-coach — you kind of take for granted. Yet, sometimes, oftentimes, they don’t end the way you want them to end. I’m proud that it ended the way he wanted it to. I’m excited for him. As a coach, it’s an honor to be asked.

During their time together, Payton and Brees achieved notable success, including a Super Bowl victory in 2010. Brees, who retired in 2020, ranks second in all-time passing yards, completions, and touchdowns. Their partnership was consistently a formidable force in the NFC.

Brees will be inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Kuechly, Adam Vinatieri, and Roger Craig as part of the Class of 2026.
