RNC Sues New Jersey Over Voter Roll Transparency

The Republican National Committee (RNC) and GOP leaders from New Jersey filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against the state’s top election official and authorities in five counties. They allege that these officials failed to provide voter roll maintenance records required by federal law. The RNC’s goal is to ensure transparency for voters.

RNC Chairman Joe Gruters stated, “The RNC exposed noncitizens on New Jersey’s voter rolls. Now, election officials are hiding the records that would tell voters how it happened. The RNC won’t stand for it.” The legal filing targets New Jersey’s chief election official and authorities in Bergen, Hudson, Middlesex, Somerset, and Union counties. They allegedly withheld crucial records.

“Garden State voters deserve the truth, and we’re taking these left-wing officials to court to demand answers,” added Gruters.

The RNC initiated legal action following the discovery of hundreds of noncitizens listed on New Jersey’s voter registries, as initially reported in June. The report revealed that some migrants, seeking naturalization, claimed noncitizen status but were found to have voted in past elections.

Fox News Digital contacted the New Jersey Secretary of State and the counties named in the lawsuit for comments. Investigations into jury duty evasion also identified New Jersey residents who claimed to be noncitizens yet were registered voters. In July, the RNC sued the New Jersey Secretary of State regarding noncitizens allowed to vote in state elections.

“While Democratic Gov. Mikie Sherrill acknowledged the illegal voter registrations, Republicans argue that state Democrats have avoided accountability and explanations on how these registrations occurred,” the complaint notes.

The RNC is pressing for the release of voter roll maintenance records. They seek to ensure transparency and protect electoral integrity. At the same time, congressional investigators in Washington are examining the voter registration issues in New Jersey.

The lawsuit is part of the RNC’s nationwide campaign focused on election integrity, ahead of the midterm elections. Requests for records have also been sent to 48 states to confirm voter registries are properly maintained. This effort builds upon previous lawsuits filed by the RNC in New Jersey regarding voting practices.

Joining the current lawsuit are the RNC, the New Jersey GOP, Rep. Tom Kean Jr., and New Jersey Senate Republican Leader Anthony Bucco. “New Jerseyans deserve complete transparency following Gov. Sherrill’s admission that over 6,600 noncitizens were added to our voter rolls. Fair elections require total public accountability,” said Kean Jr. “Election officials must immediately release these records, so voters get the complete truth.”
