Rey Mysterio Reflects on His Journey at Triplemania

Before the 619 was recognized as a finishing move, Rey Mysterio made his mark at AAA. His journey began at the first-ever Triplemania event in 1993, where he competed under the name Rey Misterio Jr. Teaming up with Volador and Misterioso, he faced Los Destructores: Tony Arce, Vulcano, and Rocco Valente.

Today, AAA holds a significant role in WWE as Mysterio now serves as AAA’s general manager. He headlines Triplemania 34 Night 1 in Las Vegas, a milestone event for AAA. Speaking about his career, Mysterio expressed his gratitude toward AAA for opening doors early in his career.

It’s a very special moment for me in so many ways. The fact that I’m now the new GM of AAA. The fact that AAA was the first company that opened the doors for me and I was at the very first AAA show back in ’92. I was at the very first Triplemania in ’93. So, to see this come full circle and to be in the position where I’m at now, it’s been an amazing ride, he shared with OutKick Dropkick.

Mysterio spoke about the complexity of his role but expressed readiness to manage challenges. He created a headline match against Omos for Triplemania, marking the first two-night Triplemania event ever held by AAA, with shows in both Las Vegas and Mexico City.

Mysterio’s ongoing feud with Omos, a 7-foot-3 giant, might conclude soon. After Omos injured Galeno and attacked Mysterio in August, he was suspended. Omos later disrupted an event with the help of Dominik Mysterio.

Despite facing formidable opponents throughout his career, Mysterio remains unfazed. His experience with bigger opponents has always motivated him.

I’ve felt his power. Very strong dude. Very intimidating, but it doesn’t faze me. I’ve seen giants before. I was just saying a minute ago, from the moment I started training at 8 years old, I was the smallest kid in the class. […] I’m not scared. I’m motivated. I’m antsy to step in the ring and I’m looking forward to tonight, he said.

As AAA’s GM, Mysterio emphasizes maintaining authority and setting boundaries. A win against Omos means permanent expulsion for him from AAA, while a loss allows Omos to rejoin the roster.
