Lewis Hamilton joined forces with Colman Domingo at Ralph Lauren’s Milan Fashion Week show. They shared insights on a menswear collection ranging from formal pinstripes to casual festival wear. Over the past two seasons, Ralph Lauren has used its elegant Milan palazzo as the venue, attracting celebrities like “Crazy Rich Asians” star Henry Golding, “Avengers” actor Tom Hiddleston, and U.S. actor Scott Eastwood.
Despite a heatwave, fans gathered outside to catch a glimpse of arriving stars. Thai actor Nichakoon Khajornborirak and Korean actor Kim Woo-bin waved at the crowd, enhancing the excitement. Domingo had a brief slip while retrieving a hand fan from his car but was unharmed. He remarked, “I was not going to leave that fan in that car.”
Brooklyn to the Hamptons
The collection showcased diverse styles. Ralph Lauren’s luxury Purple line included daytime suits transitioning to tuxedo shirts and bow ties under patchwork denim coats. Berets, aviator glasses, and pocket watch chains completed the look. Domingo noted, “It felt like 1920s-inspired. A mixture of old and new.”
On the casual side, colorful madras plaids defined the sportier Polo collection. It featured layered knitwear, rugby shirts, and light puffers, perfect for festivals or beach parties. Playful combinations of pink and green were reminiscent of the “Preppy Handbook.” Polo Bear knitwear matched runway outfits. Domingo highlighted, “I saw cravats and vests mixed with workwear, from day to night, urban streets to East Hampton.”
From Purple to Polo, Timeless Accessories
Formal and casual styles intertwined throughout the collection. The runway showcased age and race diversity. Silk scarves in suits evolved into colorful bandanas. Ties transformed into belts and bags, aligning with up-cycling trends. Footwear choices included leather sandals, velvet slippers, espadrilles, and duck boots. Men could opt for branded canvas totes or luxurious snakeskin portfolios. Eastwood expressed interest in a snakeskin bag, calling the brand “timeless.”
Golding appreciated Ralph Lauren’s support in his career, describing the Purple label as his go-to for refined occasions.
