Prince Harry Loses Legal Battle Against Daily Mail Publisher

4 weeks ago 0

In a significant legal decision, Britain’s Prince Harry has lost his extended legal battle against the publisher of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday, Associated Newspapers (ANL). The court has dismissed all claims made by Harry and other notable figures, including Elton John and Elizabeth Hurley, alleging the unlawful gathering of information through phone tapping and impersonation.

The U.K. High Court’s ruling came on Tuesday, citing insufficient evidence to support the allegations. Lawyers for the claimants argued that these alleged activities occurred between 1993 and 2011 and continued until 2018. However, ANL had dismissed these accusations, describing them as “preposterous,” and insisted that the articles in question were based on lawfully obtained information.

This decision ends what is expected to be the last of Harry’s courtroom confrontations with British media organizations. In the past, Harry had secured substantial damages from The Sun newspaper in an out-of-court settlement, where they apologized for intrusive methods used in their reporting. Similarly, in 2023, he won significant damages in a case against Mirror Group Newspapers for phone hacking.

The court’s decision coincides with Harry’s visit to the U.K., which stirred speculation about whether his wife Meghan and their children would accompany him, though they did not. During this visit, Harry also addressed concerns with the Buckingham Palace about accommodations and security arrangements for his family while in the country.

The prince has consistently blamed media intrusion for the tragic death of his mother, Princess Diana, in 1997. He cites media harassment as a major factor leading to his and Meghan’s departure from their official royal roles and their relocation to the United States in 2020.
