President Donald Trump has urged U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro to reassess the decision to drop charges related to vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
Trump used Truth Social to highlight alleged vandalism, sharing images from a photographer. He stated that individuals were seen in proximity to the damaged areas, suggesting they may have contributed to the vandalism. Observers reported the material had been cut with a knife.
President Trump expressed strong disagreement with U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s decision, urging her to reconsider, citing connections to the fundraising platform ActBlue and representation by lawyer Norm Eisen.
Trump criticized Pirro for dropping the felony case against David Hearn, a former Olympian, last Friday. He also alleged Pirro succumbed to judicial pressure, withdrawing the case hastily.
David Hearn was indicted on July 2 for felony destruction of property. Reports initially claimed he caused over $1,000 worth of damage at the Reflecting Pool on June 19, even ignoring warnings from National Park Service staff. However, the Department of the Interior supplied inadequate initial reports, omitting vital documentation about installation issues with the pool’s coating.
The coating’s flaws were linked to rush efforts ahead of the America 250 celebration, around Independence Day 2026. This led prosecutors to dismiss charges due to insufficient evidence.
