Philadelphia Police Officers Shot While Responding to Call

Two Philadelphia police officers were hospitalized after getting shot on Saturday morning in the city’s western area. Both were responding to an emergency call.

Details of the Shooting

The first officer, aged 40, with two children, sustained three gunshot wounds. The second officer, aged 33, with five children, was shot 12 times. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel provided this information during a news conference.

Bethel addressed reporters with these words. The incident occurred just after midnight. Officers were sent to 140 North 52nd Street following a report of an armed individual on a porch.

Response and Aftermath

Upon arrival, officers encountered significant gunfire. Additional officers and a SWAT team found their wounded colleagues on the porch shortly after.

The officers involved in the shooting were transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for surgery. Their current conditions remain unknown. Bethel highlighted the ambush aspect of the attack, with the suspect running down an alley before opening fire.

Suspect Details

The suspect, not yet named, had two handguns and a shotgun at the scene. One handgun belonged to one of the injured officers. The Philadelphia Police Department has not provided further comments.
