Passenger Caught with Illegal Drugs Inside Computer at Airport

A surprising incident unfolded at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Arizona when Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers discovered illegal drugs hidden within a computer. The suspicious items were detected during routine security screening.

The passenger, whose identity remains undisclosed, faced scrutiny when TSA detected something unusual inside an Apple Mac mini desktop computer. TSA’s Lead Officer, Logan Stortz, first identified the unusual mass with wiring on the X-ray machine as potentially indicative of drugs.

Stortz initially assumed it might be a part of an internal TSA test. However, upon further examination, he was shocked to find drugs. TSA Officer Isaiah Martinez Jr., assisting Stortz, also noted the irregularity and immediately alerted supervisory staff.

Additional inspection revealed signs of tampering beneath concealed areas of the computer. This scrutiny led to the intervention of explosives specialist Robert Rosas Perez II. He discovered materials wrapped in plastic, including a crystallized substance and an orange pill-like item, halting all procedures for safety.

Upon further investigation, field tests pointed toward the substances being fentanyl, methamphetamine, and ketamine, leading to the passenger’s arrest by Phoenix police. The incident emphasizes that even unusual concealment of illegal items can be detected.

Supervisory TSA Officer Emily Price commented on the peculiar nature of this concealment. According to Perez, attempts to smuggle prohibited items through airport security occur more often than the public might expect. TSA’s focus remains on detecting threats to aviation while alerting law enforcement regarding suspected illegal substances.

“Every day, passengers attempt to bring illicit, illegal, prohibited or suspected illegal items through security checkpoints,” Perez stated.
