OpenAI, Anthropic PBC, and SpaceXAI faced significant service disruptions on Thursday. These outages impacted customers of three of the top AI model developers in the United States. According to user reports and company status pages, the disruptions affected a large user base.
Downdetector, an outage tracking platform, received reports from tens of thousands of users experiencing issues with OpenAI services. The company acknowledged the problems and is actively investigating elevated error rates impacting its services, including the ChatGPT chatbot and the Codex AI coding tool.
Anthropic noted that several of its models had begun to recover following earlier issues. However, the company is continuing its efforts to resolve ongoing disruptions, specifically with its Opus 4.8 and Opus 5 offerings.
SpaceXAI’s chatbot, Grok, is also experiencing outages, as indicated on the company’s status page. The disruptions led to user frustration and highlighted the challenges faced by AI developers in maintaining complex systems.
