Olivia Rodrigo’s latest album, “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love,” draws from her personal experiences, especially focused on her first adult relationship. The album offers a deeper exploration of romantic emotions that come with maturity.
In an interview with Dazed magazine, Olivia Rodrigo discussed how her new music marks a significant step in her understanding of love. “This record is about my first time being in an adult relationship; it’s me discovering what romantic love looks like in real-time,” she shared. “I’ve been in relationships before that were exciting and tumultuous in a teenage way, but this was my first time in a real, ‘big girl’ relationship.”
Rodrigo also highlighted the introspection that comes with intimate relationships. “When you’re in an intimate relationship, it holds up a mirror and shows you parts of yourself that you would never normally see,” she explained. “That was an endless source of inspiration – something that I’m still mining.”
As for whether fans will learn about her current relationship status in the new album, Rodrigo keeps her private life private. The album, as she noted in the interview, features songs that relate to various stages of a relationship, serving as a source where people might deduce insights about her personal experiences. “I never talk about my personal life in interviews or on any public forum, so I guess the music is where people would go to deduce things,” she said. “But, you know, it’s just a song at the end of the day.”
The album, “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love,” is set for release on Geffen Records on June 12.
