Ohio Rep. Max Miller Denies Abuse Allegations Amid Political Tension

Ohio Representative Max Miller has addressed accusations of abuse made by his ex-wife, asserting his innocence and confirming his candidacy in the upcoming November midterm elections. Miller responded to the allegations during a livestream on X, expressing the impact on his family and daughter. He emphasized, “I’ve been portrayed as an abusive husband, an abusive father, and a violent man. Those allegations have damaged my reputation, caused enormous pain to my family, and most importantly, it’s affected our daughter.”

Later in the livestream, Miller discussed the significance of the upcoming elections, stating, “Winning in November isn’t just about the Republican Party. It’s about my family and our daughter. It’s about keeping our values and holding the media and other individuals accountable who have been incredibly reckless.” He firmly added, “I’m not getting out of this race, and I’m winning in November.”

The situation unfolded as Miller, a two-term congressman representing Ohio’s 7th Congressional District, dealt with increased scrutiny following allegations from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno. He denied claims of abusive behavior towards Moreno and their daughter, and he faces no criminal charges related to these accusations.

Recent attention was drawn to the case when Moreno sought a restraining order to prevent Miller from contacting her attorneys, alleging harassment and physical confrontations during their custody battle. Miller refuted these claims and pointed to his ongoing joint custody as evidence of the contested nature of these allegations.

Additional reports indicated allegations of Miller’s violent behavior, citing incidents such as pushing Moreno against a wall and threatening her with a gun. Claims were also made about the daughter being injured in his care. However, court records suggest that child welfare investigations found no substantiation of abuse by Miller, who has not faced any related charges.

In response, Miller initiated a defamation lawsuit against Moreno in May, accusing her and her legal team of spreading false assertions damaging his reputation and electoral chances. He is seeking damages, asserting that Moreno has aimed to portray him misleadingly as violent and abusive. Moreno’s representatives have refuted this portrayal.

The controversy has grown politically significant. Democrats recognize a potential advantage, given Miller’s narrow win in his district two years ago. Some have called for his resignation or an ethics inquiry. Meanwhile, Republican leaders maintain their support for Miller, though it’s reported that Trump’s advisers are observing developments.

Miller, who previously served as an aide in Trump’s White House, won his congressional seat in 2022. He and Moreno married that year and are co-parents to a daughter.
