Americans will receive their November Social Security payments on an adjusted timetable due to holidays and a weekend. The Social Security Administration (SSA) serves nearly 72 million people, including retirees, individuals with disabilities, and dependents of eligible workers. The distribution follows a staggered schedule based on various factors such as the type of benefit, the start date of claiming, and birth date.
November 2026 Social Security Payment Dates
Here are the payment dates for November 2026:
- October 30: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive their payment since November 1 is a Sunday.
- November 3: Payments for those who began benefits before May 1997 or receive both Social Security and SSI.
- November 10: Payments for beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th, issued early due to Veterans Day on November 11.
- November 18: Payments for beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th.
- November 25: Payments for beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st.
Upcoming Payment Increase in 2027
The SSA has announced a 3.6 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2027, which will benefit approximately 76 million Social Security and SSI recipients. This percentage exceeds the 2.8 percent increase of 2026.
The average retired worker’s benefit will increase by $75, from $2,095 to $2,170 monthly. Couples receiving benefits will see their payments rise from $3,238 to $3,355 on average. Disabled workers will notice an increase from $1,642 to $1,701. The maximum federal SSI payment will increase from $994 to $1,029 for individuals, and from $1,491 to $1,544 for eligible couples.
The COLA is calculated using the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W), assessed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The SSA compares CPI-W figures from July to September with those from the same period the previous year to determine COLA.
A recent AARP survey indicated that 76 percent of Americans aged 50 and older believed a projected 3.5 percent COLA wouldn’t keep up with rising prices. This concern is stronger among current Social Security recipients, rising to 80 percent.
Tyler End, CEO of Retirable, noted that the 3.6 percent increase is essential but may not sufficiently address inflation-driven cost rises in essentials like healthcare and groceries. For instance, an additional $75 a month for the average recipient might not cover these increased living expenses.
Implementation of New Payments
Despite the announcement, November’s payments remain unchanged. The new amounts will take effect from payments issued in January 2027. SSI recipients will receive their updated payment on December 31, 2026, since January 1 is a holiday.
Beneficiaries can check their personalized COLA notices on their my Social Security accounts by late November. These notices will specify new monthly payments and any deductions, such as Medicare premiums.
