Nicolas Cage’s Home Damaged Due to Coastal Erosion

Nicolas Cage’s oceanfront residence suffered damage when the driveway collapsed due to several days of rough surf. Coastal erosion from Hurricane Marie in the Pacific Ocean led to a sinkhole forming in front of his home.

Video footage shows a 30 by 30-foot cavity in front of the property, exposing waves and structural beams beneath. The area also contains fragments of a glass fence and concrete debris, with orange cones marking the perimeter.

The City of Malibu stated they responded to a resulting gas leak, coordinating with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s and Fire Departments to close the private road and identify the leak.

The City’s Building Safety Division and Southern California Gas Company are evaluating the risk. Five homes have been red-tagged, preventing entry while assessments continue.

No evacuations have been ordered, but monitoring of other erosion-related issues, particularly near the Pacific Coast Highway and at Westward Beach, is ongoing. The City is also preparing for possible severe weather linked to El Niño conditions that could affect the area.

Purchased in 2024, Cage’s 4,000-square-foot home cost $10.5 million and offers features like a rooftop deck and an outdoor lounge. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide expansive ocean views.

Cage was not present during the collapse, and no injuries have been reported. Known for films such as “Moonlight,” “Face/Off,” and “Leaving Las Vegas,” he told The Guardian he values trying new approaches in acting.
