Jonquel Jones also made a strong impact, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. New York improved its season record to 23-15.
The game remained tight until the end. With the score tied at 100, Stewart split a pair of free throws, giving the Liberty a slim lead. After Indiana missed a shot, Fiebich scored a basket under pressure, even though she missed the follow-up free throw.
Caitlin Clark had an opportunity to respond for Indiana, but her layup missed. Fiebich secured the rebound, and Astier was fouled with under 30 seconds left. She converted both free throws, extending New York’s lead to five.
The match held significant importance for both teams, as playoff positioning was at stake. The standings were tight from third to eighth place. By halftime, New York held a four-point lead. A dynamic third quarter saw Sabrina Ionescu and Fiebich scoring 19 points collectively, helping extend the lead to 85-78.
Indiana valiantly rallied back, with Kelsey Mitchell tying the game with a three-pointer. Mitchell finished with 25 points. Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark contributed 22 and 21 points, respectively.
The return of Fiebich to New York’s lineup was a boost. Jones, who missed the majority of the last game due to an ankle issue, was back in action. She contributed early, scoring 17 points with seven rebounds by halftime, helping maintain a 53-49 lead.
The match also gathered attention outside the arena, with rallies concerning transgender women in sports. Indiana’s Sophie Cunningham faced reactions from the crowd due to her views shared in a previous ESPN profile. Despite this off-court attention, the game remained the focus for both teams.
The Fever were in the midst of a demanding stretch, having played five road games in eight days. They managed two wins out of four games in this series of away matches.
