MLB Suspensions Announced Following Nationals-Red Sox Brawl

Major League Baseball has issued four suspensions after the Tuesday night brawl between the Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. Both teams saw key players disciplined due to their involvement.

Key Players Suspended

Boston’s first baseman Willson Contreras and Washington’s starter Cade Cavalli both received seven-game suspensions along with undisclosed fines. The conflict started during the fourth inning of Washington’s 8-1 victory when Cavalli taunted Contreras after striking him out on a full-count pitch.

Following the incident, Contreras charged the mound and threw his helmet at Cavalli, which escalated the situation, leading both teams’ benches and bullpens to intervene.

Additional Suspensions

The league also suspended Nationals right-hander Miles Mikolas for five games and Red Sox outfielder Nate Eaton for three games due to their participation in further altercations that occurred. Both players faced fines and were ejected during the game.

The suspensions will commence on Friday. Boston is set to begin a series in Anaheim, and the Nationals will face the Pittsburgh Pirates. Boston is expected to feel a more significant impact as Contreras will miss a full week of play.

All players have the option to appeal their suspensions, which would delay the start until MLB completes its review.
