Michael Weatherly will return to ‘NCIS’ as Tony DiNozzo after a decade away from the show. On July 1, CBS announced the actor’s reprisal in the 24th season of the long-running series. Weatherly first appeared as a main cast member for 13 seasons before leaving in 2016. CBS confirmed he would be part of a ‘season-long arc,’ reuniting with the ‘NCIS’ team.

Weatherly shared his return news on Instagram, stating, “I’ll see you in the fall.” The post caption read, “We’ve missed this one… welcome back, old friend!” The actor previously made a return during the 21st season for an episode honoring David McCallum and his character, Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, following McCallum’s passing in September 2023.

Weatherly also appeared in the spinoff, ‘NCIS: Tony & Ziva,’ alongside his co-star Cote de Pablo. Despite the spinoff’s cancellation in December after just one season, fans remain hopeful for a reunion on the main series. On social media, fans expressed their excitement and hopes for de Pablo’s return as well. Comments included, “You better be bringing @cotedepablo with you!” and “It better be both Tony and Ziva!”

In response to the spinoff’s end, Weatherly and de Pablo released a joint statement expressing gratitude for the opportunity to reprise their roles and continue Tony and Ziva’s story. They thanked the ‘extraordinary cast, crew, writers, directors, producers, and partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+.’ They extended heartfelt thanks to the global fanbase for their support.

Besides Weatherly, the upcoming ‘NCIS’ season will feature Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law, and Gary Cole. ‘NCIS’ will broadcast on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and stream on Paramount+ this fall.
