Miami’s Darian Mensah Shines as New Quarterback

Recently, college football kickstarted its season with several top quarterbacks, including Arch Manning from Texas, Dante Moore from Oregon, and CJ Carr from Notre Dame. Each aims for a standout season with hopes of becoming a high NFL draft pick. Yet, Colin Cowherd has pointed out a different quarterback who he believes stands above the rest.

On his podcast, “The Colin Cowherd Podcast,” Cowherd praised Darian Mensah of the Miami Hurricanes. He stated, “I can’t believe there’s a better quarterback than Darian Mensah.” Cowherd noted Mensah’s skill, saying, “Mensah’s about as good of a college quarterback as you’re gonna get.” He highlighted Mensah’s background, explaining that he started in under-the-radar high school football and later played for Tulane and Duke, gaining valuable experience.

Now playing for Miami, Mensah faces increased pressure with a stronger team. Cowherd admires Mensah’s journey and his ability to excel under pressure. In Miami’s first game against Stanford, Mensah delivered an excellent performance. In a 45-6 win, he completed 27 of 30 passes, totaling 401 yards and five touchdowns. His main target, Malachi Toney, recorded 234 yards and three touchdowns.

Mensah takes over as Miami’s quarterback after Carson Beck’s move to the NFL. In his debut against Stanford, Mensah showed his prowess with no interceptions and just three incomplete passes. Throughout the game, he confidently found his receivers and handled defensive pressure adeptly.

However, some fans argue that Stanford was not a strong test for Mensah. They await more challenging opponents to see if his skills hold up. Miami’s coach, Mario Cristobal, hopes Mensah will continue his impressive performances, as Miami seeks a return to the College Football Playoff and aims for the National Championship.

The Hurricanes face Florida A&M on Thursday, Sept. 10, for their second game. A major test arrives when they play Notre Dame, ranked No. 4, on Saturday, Nov. 7.
