Mbappé Stars in France’s Victory Over Senegal

1 week ago 0

France’s Kylian Mbappé struggled to find his rhythm for much of the match against Senegal. His ball control was off, and he seemed a step behind throughout the first half. However, the game took a decisive turn in the 64th minute.

France’s Michael Olise initiated a key play, threading a pass through Senegal’s defense just as Mbappé made his move. Despite narrowly missing the ball, Mbappé was visibly frustrated. Yet, moments later, Olise found Mbappé open once more. This time, Mbappé executed a flawless shot, giving France the lead.

Mbappé’s goal propelled France to a 1-0 lead, and he later secured another goal, solidifying a 3-1 victory. These two goals elevated his career tally to 58 international goals, surpassing Olivier Giroud as France’s all-time top scorer. Mbappé also boasts 14 World Cup goals, trailing only Brazil’s Ronaldo and Germany’s Miroslav Klose.

Despite a rocky start, France gradually gained momentum. Senegal initially dominated, creating more chances and setting a swift pace. The match had a physical aspect, with referees allowing play to continue despite players’ protests.

Mbappé’s participation in the first half was limited. He recorded only 14 touches, the fewest of any player. Coach Didier Deschamps remained confident in him, emphasizing Mbappé’s familiarity with World Cup pressures.

In the second half, France’s performance improved, outshooting Senegal 10-1. Olise played a significant role, crafting several opportunities for Mbappé. In the 57th minute, an attempt nearly resulted in a goal, but was blocked by Senegal’s goalkeeper Édouard Mendy.

Finally, Mbappé and Olise successfully connected for the first goal in the 66th minute. Deschamps noted that Mbappé had several chances throughout the game, potentially scoring four or five goals.

Mbappé sealed the match with a powerful shot in stoppage time, shortly after Senegal scored. His 30-yard strike left Mendy with no chance. Witnessing Mbappé’s performance, teammate Adrien Rabiot expressed hope for continued success in the tournament.

As the World Cup progresses, Mbappé aims to become the top goalscorer. He requires two more goals to tie Klose and three to surpass him. Deschamps welcomed any scenario where Mbappé scores, regardless of first-half struggles.

Post-match, Mbappé briefly addressed the press in French, promising further media interactions as the tournament unfolds. Both he and France aspire to return to the same field for the final in a month’s time.
