Mark Cuban, a billionaire and owner of the Dallas Mavericks, once braved the world of WWE wrestling in the early 2000s. He emerged with not only physical aches but also a newfound respect for the athletes involved. Cuban shared his experiences on the show ‘Build or Break,’ where he voiced his opinions on various topics.
During the show, host Daniel Lubetzky posed a question about WWE. Cuban recalled his cameo appearances in wrestling. He recounted being involved in an RKO by Randy Orton and a table slam by Sheamus.
‘I did it twice. I loved it,’ Cuban stated. He explained how WWE reached out after he bought the Mavericks in 2003. They invited him to participate in an event in Dallas. He agreed, but with two conditions: one, he had to be hit, and two, he would hit someone.
His first encounter included practicing an RKO with Randy Orton. Despite the rehearsals, the move still resulted in some physical discomfort.
Six years later, Cuban made another appearance. This time, the WWE Live event involved John Cena and wrestler Sheamus. Cuban described the scenario: ‘They said, OK, Sheamus has never hit the canvas. You get to put him down so he hits the canvas, but in return, he’s going to put you through a table.’
He agreed, thinking the video would look impressive. Cuban shared how he felt when the event unfolded. The table was real, and they instructed him to keep his head down to avoid injury. Following the sequence, he humorously performed a ‘pretend I’m dead’ routine.
Cuban later revealed, ‘I was sore for two weeks. My back hurt so bad.’ These experiences gave him tremendous respect for professional wrestlers, acknowledging the athleticism and pain involved. Though orchestrated, the physicality of wrestling is undeniable.
While Cuban has been absent from WWE events in recent times, his ventures in the ring were memorable. It remains uncommon for sports team owners to participate in wrestling events. Cuban’s willingness to engage physically set him apart from others in similar positions.
Ryan Gaydos, a senior editor for Fox News Digital, notes the impact of such moments in professional wrestling history.
