Malik Nabers Progresses Toward Week 1 Availability

Malik Nabers has surprised New York Giants fans with his impressive performance on the field during training camp. This comes after an offseason filled with uncertainty about his readiness for Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys. Head coach John Harbaugh provided another positive update, indicating the Giants’ 2024 first-round pick may be available for the start of the season.

Harbaugh told reporters that it is reasonable to expect Nabers will be ready for Week 1. Nabers, who suffered a torn right ACL and meniscus damage last season, has shown significant improvement. He practiced without a red non-contact jersey and participated in 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 reps, wearing a regular white jersey.

Harbaugh mentioned Nabers’ ability to engage in reasonable contact with defenders during practice. Although Nabers was previously seen in a non-contact jersey, his absence of such attire aligns with Harbaugh’s plan for him. The intention is to avoid rushing Nabers from no contact to full contact before the start of the season.

Nabers expressed his eagerness to return to the field, stating that he felt revitalized. His performance in training camp has impressed fans and demonstrated his upward progress. The Giants are refraining from including Nabers in their final preseason game against the New York Jets, opting instead for him to continue his journey to Week 1 readiness through practice.

Nabers’ partnership with quarterback Jaxson Dart shows potential. Despite only having played one quarter together before Nabers’ knee injury, their chemistry is developing. Dart, who recorded 24 touchdowns in 14 games last season, is anticipated to benefit from Nabers’ talent, as seen in his rookie year performance of 1,204 yards in 2024.
