Diane Gottsman, an etiquette expert from Texas, shared her perspective. She believes passengers can bring luggage into elevators, but should remain mindful of limited space. “Travel space is a priority,” Gottsman stated. “Consider the people around you.”

To ease the situation, Gottsman suggests leaving larger suitcases outside cabins the night before for crew collection. She advised passengers to limit luggage when using crowded elevators.

On the other hand, passengers preferring to carry their bags should manage them independently. Cruise lines like Carnival Cruise Line have specific luggage protocols. Their website notes that checked baggage service ends two hours before a ship’s scheduled sailing. Late arrivals must handle their own luggage.

Planning is essential on busy embarkation and disembarkation days, according to Gottsman. “On disembarkation day, everyone departs simultaneously,” she mentioned, urging advance planning.

Passengers should let others exit before boarding and wait for less crowded elevators. “Be patient and considerate,” Gottsman advised.

Priority should be given to passengers with mobility issues. Those carrying extra luggage might have to wait longer.
