Latino Voter Preferences Shift Away from Trump and GOP

41 minutes ago 0

New polling data from NBC News and Telemundo indicates that Latino voters are increasingly distancing themselves from President Donald Trump and the Republican Party as the midterm elections approach. The survey, conducted from September 21-28, involved 800 registered Latino voters across the United States.

The results reveal that 69% of Latino voters disapprove of Trump’s performance, while 27% approve. Additionally, approximately 66% feel Trump’s deportation policies have been excessive, and 75% believe Trump has poorly managed the economy and cost of living.

Despite recent gains by Republicans within the Latino demographic, Democrats maintain a significant lead. The poll shows that 59% of Latino voters prefer Democrats to control Congress, compared to 35% for Republicans.

Previously, in the 2024 election cycle, Democrats had a 12-point lead among Latino voters. This suggests that the GOP is losing some traction previously gained with this group. Nevertheless, the Republican Party has seen notable progress over the past decade. Latino support for a GOP Congress was only 21% and 26% in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

The NBC News and Telemundo poll was conducted via phone interviews and online surveys, with a reported margin of error of 3.5%.

These findings contribute to a broader series of polls showing the Democratic Party’s strong position leading into the midterm elections. In response to unfavorable polling, Trump told a rally in Dayton, Ohio, that such polls fail to capture his ongoing influence.

“These fake polls don’t account for the fact that Trump is out campaigning,” Trump stated to his supporters. “With you at my side, we have always prevailed and prevailed by a lot.”

In terms of the House of Representatives, forecasts show Democrats potentially securing 215 seats to the GOP’s 201. Democrats need three more victories from the 19 toss-up races to achieve a majority, while Republicans would need to win at least 17.
