Lane Kiffin returned to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford as the head coach of the LSU Tigers, facing off against his former team, Ole Miss. Saturday night’s atmosphere was charged as the crowd was less than welcoming to Kiffin.
Led by Pete Golding, the Ole Miss Rebels secured a 32-24 win over Kiffin and his Tigers, thrilling the home supporters. The game set a new attendance record for the program, with 70,033 fans packing the stadium.
Following the loss, Kiffin reflected on the intense environment, describing it as akin to entering a “buzz saw.” He told reporters, “The stadium was full an hour early. So, I guess I had to leave to get them to do that. You’re welcome.”
Previously, Kiffin had left his 11-1 Ole Miss team before their College Football Playoff campaign last season to take up his new role with LSU. Under his leadership, LSU managed season-opening victories against Clemson and Louisiana Tech, but suffered their first defeat against the Rebels.
As Ole Miss enjoys a 3-0 start to their season, they prepare for an upcoming away game against the Florida Gators.
