Katy Perry issued an apology after her planned performance at Belgium’s Werchter Boutique was canceled just hours before the event because of severe weather predictions. Authorities decided to close the outdoor festival due to safety concerns.
Perry expressed her disappointment in an Instagram post to her followers, stating she had ‘no choice’ in the decision. She was preparing backstage when informed of the cancellation. She conveyed her frustration, underscoring her unhappiness with the situation.
“Sadly my set @WerchterBoutique tonight can’t happen due to a government mandated cancellation because of the incoming inclement weather and crowd safety concerns,” Perry wrote.
Perry continued by emphasizing that safety is paramount for the 55,000 attendees, which led to the enforced halt. Despite regretting the inability to attend, she urged everyone to travel home safely, expressing her eagerness to reunite with fans after 17 years.
Perry was meant to perform at the Festivalpark Werchter grounds for the first time since her appearance at Rock Werchter in July 2009, where she showcased her debut solo tour Hello Katy. In her social media post, she shared a backstage image showing her in a robe, next to her unutilized stage outfit.
Perry’s headlining show was set to conclude the one-day festival at 10 pm following Pitbull’s act. She included the official statement from Werchter Boutique, which declared the early end to the festival:
“Werchter Boutique will end after Pitbull’s concert. Following consultation with the Rock Werchter safety committee, in which all authorities and the organization are represented, it has been decided that Werchter Boutique will end at 9 pm this evening.”
Thunderstorms were forecasted for midnight, necessitating the cancellation of Perry’s concert. The closure aimed to ensure a safe and orderly exit of attendees.
The cancellation followed Perry’s recent performance at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Los Angeles, where she debuted the song “Wonder” alongside Tius, a young Norwegian singer.
In Los Angeles, Perry was supported by her boyfriend Justin Trudeau, attending the opening ceremony and enjoying Team USA’s victory against Paraguay. Perry and Trudeau have publicly dated since December 2025.
Perry, who recently released the single “Watch It Burn,” continues her European tour and is scheduled to perform next in Wales at DEPOT Live at Cardiff Castle.
