A collision at the Kansas City Chiefs training camp briefly raised concerns about rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen’s health. Despite the frightening impact, initial examinations revealed no severe damage. ESPN sources confirmed that Allen only suffered a shin bruise, not a tear or fracture.
Allen was not the sole receiver facing an injury scare. His teammate, Xavier Worthy, also experienced a concerning moment. During an 11-on-11 session, Worthy hurt his shoulder after catching a deep pass and falling near the end zone. This incident adds to Worthy’s previous shoulder problems, as he injured himself early last season, leading to an offseason procedure.
Allen’s incident occurred during a special teams drill involving pooch punts. While Allen and defensive back Kaiir Elam chased the ball near the goal line, they collided. Elam managed to walk it off, but Allen had to be assisted off the field after staying on the ground.
“I hate to see somebody get hurt, especially on a special teams drill,” said Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub. “He’s doing really well on both offense and special teams and puts himself in a position to help us.”
Toub emphasized that rookies are normally involved in special teams until they prove themselves in either offensive or defensive roles.
Selected in the fifth round of April’s draft, Allen quickly became a key target for Patrick Mahomes in camp. He leads the team’s wide receivers in catches during practice sessions.
