James Carville Discusses Waning Support for Trump

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville remarked on Thursday about a perceived decline in vocal support for President Donald Trump. He suggested only those with extreme views still publicly back Trump.

Carville’s observations came during the “Politics War Room” podcast with co-host Al Hunt. A listener from rural Texas noted a decrease in visible Trump support, commenting, “Flags and signs are few and far between.” The listener questioned if this could signal lower turnout and enthusiasm for upcoming elections.

Carville agreed, saying, “Anecdotal evidence, when it piles up, you can’t ignore it.” He shared his experience from south Mississippi, where previous encounters at Walmart involved discussions about Trump. Recently, such interactions have dwindled.

Carville argued that recurring anecdotes signal a cultural shift, observing fewer Trump merchandise stands and flags along Highway 90. He stated, “Visibility matters, and consistent observations indicate something significant.” He believed people in rural Texas may not significantly increase support for Trump as before.

During the podcast, Carville criticized those in Trump’s inner circle as “buffoons.” He expressed difficulty understanding continued support for Trump in 2026, while acknowledging the reasons for Trump’s 2024 votes.

“I can’t comprehend how you still support Trump,” Carville said. He emphasized Trump failed to deliver on promises and prioritized personal gain over public service. Carville concluded by urging remaining supporters to reconsider their stance.

A White House spokesman dismissed Carville’s comments, describing him as a “stone-cold loser” with strong negative views towards Trump.
