The Chicago Police Department (CPD) and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) have initiated investigations after a video surfaced, allegedly showing an off-duty CPD sergeant threatening a group of teenagers on the Southwest Side.
The video, shared widely on social media, depicts a muscular, middle-aged man confronting several teens. Both COPA and CPD’s Bureau of Internal Affairs are conducting investigations into the incident, where the sergeant in question reportedly used profane language and threats.
Incident Details
The sergeant identified as Jeremy Sikorski, is seen in the video demanding an explanation from the teens about whether they were harassing two younger children. When the teens denied involvement and claimed the younger kids made crude remarks, Sikorski issued threats.
“I’ll knock your [expletive] ass out,” Sikorski declared, directing threats at both the teens and their parents.
The scene escalated as Sikorski approached a girl recording the situation, knocking her phone from her hand, resulting in her distress.
Consequences and Response
A CPD spokesperson confirmed that Sikorski has been relieved of his police duties and reassigned to the Alternate Response Section. COPA also confirmed the launch of its investigation. Sikorski did not respond to requests for comment on the incident.
Records from the Office of Inspector General reveal Sikorski has faced 22 misconduct allegations during his career, with two complaints sustained.
