Humpback Whale Stranding in Germany Sparks National Attention

In mid-April off Germany’s northeast coast, an unusual event drew the nation’s gaze. A humpback whale, affectionately named Timmy, became trapped near the island of Poel. The incident united many Germans in a collective desire to aid the distressed mammal.

Sergio Bambarén, a Peruvian spiritual author and motivational speaker, took a unique approach to the rescue. Lacking formal marine biology training, he was brought to Germany by a millionaire supporting the rescue efforts. Bambarén believed in using music to communicate with whales, claiming he had participated in five similar rescues before. Upon entering the Baltic Sea, he sang to Timmy underwater and asserted that the young whale responded positively, suggesting a mutual understanding.

The German public rallied around Timmy’s plight. Visitors crowded Poel Island to see the whale in person, and thousands more watched through livestreams. Discussions about the whale’s rescue flooded online forums and local meetings, demonstrating widespread concern and activism.
