Hugh Laurie, renowned for his role in the medical drama “House,” addressed a recent social media incident. The actor admitted to being “slightly drunk” when he responded to a critic online.

On Monday, journalist Janet Murray shared a screenshot of her article on UnHerd titled, “What I Learnt from My Online Fight with Hugh Laurie.” This online dispute began after Murray reviewed “House.” Laurie, starring from 2004 to 2012, has since issued an apology for any distress caused.

Hugh Laurie, in his apology on social media, expressed regret. “I’m sorry if people have been having a go at you because of my tweet. Not at all the plan,” he stated. Laurie mentioned being upset about unrelated matters.

“I’m a thin-skinned person, apparently, even though it wasn’t my skin. I was defending the writers whom I adored.” — Hugh Laurie

Laurie reflected on how he should have avoided citing figures like Bach or Kahlo in his defense and instead referenced the countless blues songs. He concluded with, “We love what we love.” Murray acknowledged Laurie’s apology, noting “no hard feelings.”

The exchange between Murray and Laurie began on June 6 after Murray critiqued the narrative of “House” Season 1 on social media. “Late to the party, but I’ve started watching… Same narrative every episode,” Murray observed. Laurie replied with humor, suggesting alternative plot structures didn’t satisfy networks or audiences.
