Hilary Swank has surprised fans with news of her third pregnancy at the age of 52. Three years prior, she gave birth to twins at 48. The actress and her family announced the pregnancy through a social media video, showcasing them dancing with glowsticks taped to their bodies, revealing Swank’s visible baby bump. The video was captioned, ‘A lot of people have been asking what project I’m doing next, this one releases in December.’
Swank and her husband, Philip Schneider, both 52, welcomed twins, daughter Aya and son Ohm, three years ago. Dr. Kameelah Phillips, an OB-GYN, indicated that being pregnant at 52 is rare and poses significant medical considerations. ‘Most women in this age group are entering menopause,’ Phillips stated. ‘However, even if the ovaries are becoming inactive, the uterus can be made to carry a pregnancy through IVF.’
Dr. Phillips added that Swank is likely under the care of a high-risk team due to increased risks in older pregnancies. These risks include gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, diabetes, and a higher likelihood of having a C-section.
Two years ago, Swank spoke on ‘CBS Sunday Morning’ about balancing her acting career and motherhood. ‘Being an older parent has allowed me to fully dive into my dream of acting and now embrace this dream of being a mom because I’m not distracted by other commitments.’
