Fitness Event in New York City Promotes Exercise and Healthy Lifestyle

Fitness influencer and trainer Mark Langowski, known online as @bodybymark, organized a pushup and plank competition in New York City to encourage physical activity among the public. With nearly two million followers on Instagram, Langowski uses his platform to inspire fitness enthusiasts to share their exercise routines. At his Washington Square Park event, in collaboration with Oikos yogurt on May 12, attendees had the chance to win cash prizes.

The competition awarded $500 each to a male and female winner who performed the most pushups or held the longest plank. Beyond monetary incentives, Langowski emphasized the importance of inspiring people to become more active. During an interview with Fox News Digital, he spoke about the event’s goals, saying, “It’s a way to encourage strength and overall fitness in New York City and all around the country.” Participants engaged in plank and pushup challenges, with one individual completing an impressive 111 pushups.

Langowski shared traits of successful competitors during the event, highlighting strength, humility, and confidence. “The people who did the most, they didn’t say they were going to do the most,” he observed. Despite some boasting the ability to do 150 pushups, many were humbled by the actual challenge.

In addition to pushups and planks, Langowski noted other essential exercises for gauging fitness levels, such as pull-ups, squats, and endurance activities like running a mile. These exercises reflect those found in elementary school fitness assessments.

For those not yet proficient in these exercises but seeking better fitness, Langowski suggested starting with modified pushups, such as performing them on knees or against a wall. Over time, individuals can progress to standard pushups, building up their strength and endurance. “You’ll be surprised after you do that for a few weeks, months, or years – you’ll be able to do a lot,” Langowski stated.

Besides regular practice, Langowski stressed the importance of rest, proper protein intake, and an overall balanced diet to support muscle growth. He described motivation as the most critical factor in beginning a fitness journey. “I know that’s easy for me to say – I’ve been in fitness and relatively fit most of my life,” he admitted. “But you’ve just got to get out there, even if you’re going through a tough time.”

Langowski recommended starting with simple activities like walking around the block, requiring no gym equipment or expensive memberships. “Most of the people I talk to don’t have gym memberships. They exercise in their living rooms,” he explained. The trainer encouraged individuals to practice squats, lunges, and pushups at home.

Ultimately, Langowski advised people to begin exercising and find support through friends or trainers to ensure they exercise safely.
