Federal Judge Orders Restart of Immigration Processing

2 weeks ago 0

A federal judge in Rhode Island has instructed the government to resume processing immigration applications for individuals from countries affected by a previous ban. The directive follows the shooting of two National Guard troops last year.

On June 11, 2026, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Joseph Edlow was involved in the decision-making process. The judge criticized the administration for not promptly adhering to a prior ruling made the previous week. This ruling demanded the lifting of a blanket suspension on asylum decisions and required the resumption of immigration applications that had been put on indefinite hold for many countries.

The judge’s order emphasizes the need for timely compliance with judicial decisions regarding immigration policy changes.
