Federal Investigators Examine Fatal Amazon Cargo Plane Crash at Miami International Airport

Federal investigators are currently examining a tragic incident at Miami International Airport involving an Amazon cargo plane crash. The event occurred Sunday afternoon, resulting in the plane overshooting the runway, crashing, and igniting in flames. Witnesses are beginning to share their accounts of the incident.

Grace Mercado recounted her experience while traveling with her partner. “We heard a noise,” she said. Her partner questioned, “Is that a plane crash?” When Mercado looked up, she saw the cargo plane had crossed a Miami-Dade street before halting abruptly. “It was extremely loud,” Mercado described, emphasizing the uniqueness of the sound. “Honestly, I can’t compare it to anything else,” she added.

Initially, first responders were absent, but arrived swiftly. “They arrived in under a minute. It was absolutely insane,” Mercado noted.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reported a substantial response. Over 60 MDFR units and approximately 200 personnel attended the site, with the first arrivals occurring within seconds. The crash resulted in five fatalities and injuries to five others. “Our hearts are with the victims and their families,” expressed Miami-Dade Fire Rescue in a statement, mourning the loss and wishing recovery for the injured.

Mercado observed no movement near the crash site, aside from significant smoke emissions. “It’s surreal,” she reflected. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigators are tasked with determining the cause of the runway overshoot and subsequent crash. Victim identities remain undisclosed.
