A federal grand jury has subpoenaed Daniel Richman, a longtime associate and advisor of former FBI Director James Comey, as part of a new investigation into Comey’s alleged leaks of classified information to the media, according to law enforcement sources.
The subpoena, targeting Richman, indicates the Justice Department has opened a fresh inquiry regarding leaked classified information to the New York Times. This follows an earlier investigation initiated during President Trump’s tenure, which was halted when President Biden took office.

Richman, who served as both a law professor and an attorney for Comey, played a pivotal role in the initial investigation of the leak in 2018. He later filed a lawsuit, claiming his Fourth Amendment rights were violated when prosecutors confiscated materials from his devices during 2019 and 2020 investigations. In December, a federal judge in Washington, D.C., ruled in Richman’s favor.
Prosecutors had used the seized files to indict Comey on charges of false statements and obstruction of Congress, linked to his 2020 testimony on anonymous information leaks to news outlets by FBI officials.
Richman, previously a special FBI employee, was accused of communicating with reporters about investigations involving 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, and her eventual election defeat to President Trump.

Currently, Comey is also facing litigation over his “86 47” Instagram post, viewed by prosecutors as a potential threat against Trump. For this, Comey faces two federal charges, with the possibility of a 10-year sentence.
Todd Blanche, acting Attorney General, stated in April that “threatening the life of the President is a grave violation” and emphasized that those inciting violence or threatening presidential life will be held accountable.
Blanche further noted the indictment accuses Comey of making such threats amid observed violent incitements leading to harmful actions against Trump and other officials. According to Blanche, accountability is essential to reducing heightened tensions.
James Comey’s past activities remain under intense scrutiny as legal proceedings continue.
