Federal Authorities Dismantle Alleged Firearms Trafficking Ring

Federal authorities have taken action against a suspected firearms trafficking operation. This operation allegedly transported dozens of guns from Georgia to street gangs in Chicago. These weapons have been connected to a juvenile murder and other violent crimes in the area.

The investigation, led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), resulted in a 23-count federal indictment. This indictment, made public recently in the Middle District of Georgia, charges five individuals. The most severe charges fall on Anthony Edmond and Rafael Enriquez. They face allegations of conspiracy involving firearms trafficking, machineguns, and drug trafficking. If found guilty, they could serve life sentences. Three other suspects also face federal firearms conspiracy charges.

Court documents reveal Edmond’s alleged involvement with the Chicago-based Black Disciples gang. He is also linked to the Conservative Vice Lords, another street gang in Chicago.

Authorities claim Edmond, known as “Chapo,” played a key role in the firearms trafficking network. He is accused of orchestrating the transfer of weapons purchased in Georgia to Chicago gangs. Prosecutors allege he made these purchases from Georgia gun stores between 2020 and 2021. During this period, he reportedly bought at least 22 firearms.

Some of these weapons were allegedly altered to become fully automatic and used in violent activities, as per the indictment.

Edmond is further accused of acquiring ammunition, extended magazines, and drum magazines. Officials claim he test-fired these firearms before transferring them. Edmond allegedly made several trips from Georgia to Illinois to deliver the firearms to gang members.

In a span from 2021 to 2026, authorities reportedly recovered 20 firearms linked to Edmond in three states. In 2021, a Glock pistol was found by Chicago police in the residence of a known juvenile gang member. Forensic tests connected this gun to three separate violent incidents.

According to prosecutors, the pistol was used in a Chicago murder in 2021, and later in a rival gang shooting. Investigators said Edmond purchased this firearm in Georgia 36 days prior to its alleged use in the murder.
