The Food and Drug Administration has approved the sale of fruit-flavored vapes in the United States for the first time. A manufacturer has gained authorization to market electronic cigarettes with mango and blueberry flavors. This reversal from earlier FDA views, which highlighted the risks these products pose to young people, has triggered heated opposition.
Public Health Reaction
The decision has drawn criticism from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Various public health officials also expressed their concerns, arguing that these flavored vapes could appeal particularly to children and teenagers, undermining efforts to curb youth vaping.
“With this approval, the FDA is ignoring the years of research connecting flavored vapes to increased use among young individuals,” stated a public health advocate.
