FBI Investigates Incident Involving Incendiary Device in New York City

The FBI’s New York Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating an incident where a suspect allegedly deployed an explosive device in Lower Manhattan. The event took place outside the building that houses an FBI field office and the New York immigration court.

Authorities detained Andrew Arrabaca, identified as the suspect, outside 26 Federal Plaza on Monday morning. Two law enforcement sources confirmed to Fox News Digital that Arrabaca carried items with anti-ICE messages at the time of the alleged attack.

This morning an individual deployed an incendiary device outside of 26 Federal Plaza in New York. The individual is in custody and two minor injuries have been reported thus far. The FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating the incident, said FBI Director Kash Patel in a statement on X.

Arrabaca had an unidentified liquid upon him and reportedly set off fireworks atop it, causing a small fire, as confirmed by James Barnacle Jr., Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s New York field office. The suspect was armed with a pellet gun during the incident. A federal employee and a civilian sustained minor injuries. Both individuals received treatment and were released from medical care.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were initially reported to be part of the arrest process. The involved building in Lower Manhattan accommodates a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani addressed the situation on X. He expressed concern about the disturbing nature of the incident and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of New Yorkers. Mayor Mamdani stated that his administration remains committed to working with the NYPD and supporting the federal investigation.
