British Royal Marine veteran Tim Crockett and his son, Harrison Crockett, embarked on a significant journey across the Pacific Ocean. At the heart of this adventure lay their mission to prevent veteran suicide and raise mental health awareness. Their journey, documented in the film ‘Tame the Kraken’, spanned 2,400 nautical miles.
They were joined by Heidi Collins, CEO of Storybones Media, to emphasize the importance of their cause. Harrison, being the youngest to row this distance, brought attention to the issue affecting veterans’ mental health.
Crockett mentioned, “Our journey was not just about the physical challenge but also about reaching veterans and encouraging them to seek help.”
Grand Canyon rafting guide Kelsey Pfendler also completed a solo row across the Pacific, setting records along the way. On Friday, Pfendler reached Honolulu Harbor after traveling over 2,400 miles from California aboard her 21-foot boat, Lily.
Pfendler’s achievement included becoming the first American woman, the youngest woman, and the fastest woman to row solo across the mid-Pacific. She departed from Monterey, California, in May, breaking the previous women’s record of 86 days and the men’s record of 52 days by completing the journey in under 44 days.
Throughout her expedition, Pfendler shared experiences on social media with thousands of followers. Her updates displayed the harsh physical and mental demands of the crossing. Viewers saw her dealing with blistered hands, sleepless nights, and her daily survival routines like water purification, meal preparation, and sun protection.
Notable moments included her reflections on solitude and lighter episodes, such as humor about her hat’s tan line and caffeine pill reliance.
Approaching Oahu, Pfendler hoped her voyage would motivate others to tackle challenges they consider unattainable.
She stated, “If my journey helps even one person feel more powerful in their skin, I’ve accomplished everything I set out to do.”
Pfendler has been a professional river guide since she was 18, leading rafting excursions in the Grand Canyon along the Colorado River. Her remarkable journey stands as an inspiring testament to human endurance and the power of determination.
