2 weeks ago 0

The conviction of Karmelo Anthony for the murder of Austin Metcalf has sparked strong reactions from both families involved. Anthony’s parents have claimed there was an ‘injustice’ in their son’s trial. Meanwhile, Jeff Metcalf, the father of the victim, has shown a surprising degree of forgiveness toward his son’s murderer.

After the court delivered its verdict, Jeff Metcalf expressed anger toward Anthony but also revealed a sense of sorrow. In an interview with CBS, he shared, ‘I had a little bit of sorrow because I’m human, and that poor boy is fixing to experience a life that I would not wish upon anyone.’

Karmelo Anthony received a 35-year sentence after being found guilty of murdering Metcalf during an altercation at a high school track meet in April of the previous year. His legal team has submitted an appeal against the conviction.

The Anthonys maintain their belief that their son did not receive a fair trial. Andrew Anthony, Karmelo’s father, stated, ‘They did a number on us. We didn’t get justice.’ He emphasized procedural issues that went unresolved during the trial.

Throughout the highly publicized trial and following Anthony’s conviction, both families have faced ongoing threats and harassment. Specific incidents include a SWAT team response to the Metcalfs’ home and Jeff Metcalf continuing to receive death threats, alongside the release of his personal information.

Amid this turmoil, there is still vocal support for both sides. Austin Metcalf’s social media posts have seen increased attention, and a fan page for Karmelo Anthony has emerged on Instagram, amassing several hundred followers.

Both families have had representatives reach out to comment further on these matters.
