Over the weekend, family members of Pierre Damas Bel gathered to bid farewell to their loved one. Bel, a 20-year-old student from Haiti, faced a challenging period after losing his legal immigration status in July. This change followed the Supreme Court’s decision, which allowed the Trump administration to terminate temporary protections for countless Haitians.
Tragically, Bel died by suicide just a month after immigration authorities mandated him to wear an ankle monitor. This situation added significant pressure on him, which ultimately led to heartbreaking consequences.
