Detransition Clinic to Open in Texas Following Hospital Settlement

Texas Children’s Hospital has agreed to a $10 million settlement after performing unlawful gender transition procedures on young individuals. The agreement includes the establishment of a new clinic focused on detransition, following whistleblower Vanessa Sivadge’s testimony. Sivadge’s evidence led to significant state enforcement actions, highlighting illegal practices in youth gender transitions.

Dr. A, a psychiatrist from England, took legal action against the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. The claim alleges that hospital officials ignored concerns about men who identify as women being admitted to female psychiatric wards, contrary to the U.K. Supreme Court ruling on biological sex.

The Christian Legal Centre represents Dr. A, stating that vulnerable female patients, including sexual violence survivors, were unlawfully detained due to NHS policies. These policies allowed men access to women’s wards and facilities by identifying as female.

Despite the U.K. Supreme Court’s unanimous decision in April 2025, which defines ‘woman’, ‘man’, and ‘sex’ in terms of biological sex, Dr. A claims the NHS Trust resisted compliance. She noted that on the day following the ruling, staff were informed that no immediate patient changes would occur.

A reported incident involved a biological male, claiming to be female, exposing himself in a women’s psychiatric ward. This case attracted media attention, with the male patient moved to a male ward temporarily before returning.

Dr. A has filed an Employment Tribunal claim against the NHS Trust for workplace discrimination and harassment over her gender-critical beliefs. Her efforts to address these concerns internally over three years allegedly prompted the legal action.

Dr. A emphasized the necessity of protecting women’s privacy, dignity, and intimate care rights, stating her role obliges her to speak out. Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust has since acknowledged the Supreme Court decision and is auditing its policies.

National NHS guidance remains unresolved, with NHS England’s 2019 directive accommodating transgender patients based on gender presentation. However, reviews are currently underway following the Supreme Court judgment.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission’s guidance excludes transgender women from women-only services. Service providers must consider the impact on women’s safety, privacy, or dignity when accommodating men in these spaces.
