CT Scanner Deployment at Airports

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is implementing computed tomography (CT) scanning systems at airport checkpoints nationwide. These scanners offer 3D images of the contents of carry-on bags, surpassing the older X-ray machines that generated 2D images.

With CT scanning, travelers do not need to remove items from their carry-on baggage, streamlining the security process. While this technology advances security measures, its universal application to all carry-on luggage raises concerns about cost and efficiency.
