Since 2009, the Dallas Cowboys have been playing their home games at AT&T Stadium located in Arlington, Texas. The team’s headquarters and training facility are at The Star in Frisco, which lies approximately 36 miles away from the stadium. Currently, Brian Schottenheimer, in his second year as the Cowboys’ head coach, lives in McKinney, Texas. This location requires about a 30-minute drive to the team facility.
In a bid to shorten his commute, Schottenheimer has decided to sell his expansive McKinney home and find a residence closer to his workplace. Carrie Himel, the listing agent representing Schottenheimer’s current home, stated that the main reason for his decision was the need to be closer to work. She explained, “Every minute counts when you’re at that level.” Himel is affiliated with Compass Sports & Entertainment division and shared these insights with The Dallas Morning News.
The 5,700-square-foot property, listed for $3.8 million as of mid-April, has attracted a buyer swiftly, according to Zillow. The Collin County Appraisal District valued this residence at almost $2 million for tax purposes.
Regarding the property’s appeal, Himel described it as a “private, serene oasis” where every window offers views of nature. This unique aspect required a unique buyer, which was found rather quickly.
McKinney is situated roughly 17 miles from The Star. While Schottenheimer’s next home purchase location remains unclear, his current house offers significant features, including four bedrooms, four-and-a-half baths, a movie room, and an infinity-edge pool. Built in 2021, the home also has a garage fitting three vehicles.
Schottenheimer transitioned from being a defensive coordinator to a head coach in January 2025 due to Mike McCarthy’s departure. As head coach, Schottenheimer experienced an unusual incident when an owl flew inside his home during a game-planning meeting prior to facing the Arizona Cardinals. Animal control was called to handle the situation.
Despite the Cowboys’ 7-9-1 record in Schottenheimer’s first year as head coach, the team did not progress to the playoffs.
