Cuban-American lawmakers are raising alarms over the escalating crisis in Cuba. They argue that the country is nearing collapse due to its severe humanitarian and economic issues. These leaders see a unique chance for the Trump administration to exert more pressure on Cuba and potentially influence the region’s future.
Rep. Carlos Gimenez, R-Fla., emphasized the opportunity for change in a conversation with Fox News. He expressed optimism about the current administration’s stance. “There is a lot of hope in Cuba right now,” he noted, acknowledging support from Cuban Americans in Congress.
The Cuban regime has never been closer to being ousted,Gimenez stated, reinforcing his belief in the potential for significant change.
Gimenez spoke alongside Reps. Maria Salazar and Mario Diaz-Balart in an interview segment on “My View with Lara Trump.” They discussed the severe conditions in Cuba, including blackouts, energy shortages, and increasing unrest. The island’s proximity to the U.S. magnifies its significance, especially with Miami just 90 miles away. Salazar reflected on this, mentioning how President Trump is restoring hope for Cubans by opposing longstanding issues.
Diaz-Balart highlighted Cuba’s threat to U.S. security. He mentioned concerns over Cuba’s capability to launch drones towards the U.S. and its harboring of fugitives. He expressed confidence in President Trump’s commitment to addressing these threats.
Salazar also pointed to the administration’s actions in Latin America, like efforts against Venezuela’s leadership, as evidence of their readiness to confront challenging regimes. “What he did with Maduro shows resolve,” she said, highlighting the administration’s focus on regional security.
