This move mirrored the punt Orton delivered to Rhodes after a previous championship defeat in Las Vegas. With Orton on the defensive, seemingly surrendering, Rhodes hesitated, unsure of his next move.
As referee Eddie Arango entered the situation, attempting to give Orton time to recover, Orton seized the moment. He delivered a low blow to both Rhodes and Arango, effectively playing opossum.
Orton followed up with a decisive RKO, securing his victory as Robinson returned to count the pin.
This win for Orton might signal an end to his feud with Rhodes, at least temporarily. Rhodes, facing a series of losses, must now regroup. Previously a dominant figure in WWE, Rhodes faced defeat at the hands of Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Night of Champions. He also lost to CM Punk at SummerSlam, with Orton playing a part in that outcome.
Looking ahead, Rhodes’ quickest route back to title contention might be the upcoming Money in the Bank ladder match. Qualifying matches for this event are set to begin this week.
