Chris Brown Pleads Guilty to Affray in London Nightclub Incident

Chris Brown, the Grammy-winning singer, pleaded guilty to affray following an altercation in a London nightclub. The incident, which resulted in injuries to a music producer, took place at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair earlier in 2023. Brown attended the hearing at London’s Southwark Crown Court, where he changed his plea.

Initially, Brown denied more serious charges connected to what prosecutors described as a ‘vicious attack.’ As part of the agreement, prosecutors dismissed the charges of assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, and possessing an offensive weapon—a bottle.

Omololu Akinlolu, Brown’s friend and vocal coach, also pleaded guilty to affray. Both men were initially set for trial in October. The fight, recorded by surveillance cameras, reportedly involved Brown striking the victim’s head twice with a glass bottle in the crowded nightclub. Claire Campbell, a senior prosecutor, underscored the severity of the attack and the commitment to address such violence.

This kind of violence is entirely unacceptable, and the Crown Prosecution Service will work tirelessly with law enforcement and partners to pursue and prosecute such cases.

Following his guilty plea, Brown, who had been previously released on a £5 million ($6.75 million) bail, was granted bail once again. His sentencing for the affray charge, which could result in a maximum of three years in prison, is scheduled for October 26.

Despite the legal proceedings, Brown appeared unfazed, wearing a tan suit, gold-rimmed sunglasses, and a St. Louis Cardinals baseball cap, and signed autographs for fans outside the courthouse. Known for his musical career that began in 2005, Brown received his first Grammy for best R&B album in 2011 for ‘F.A.M.E.’ and his second in 2025 for ’11:11 (Deluxe).’
